WHAT’S INCLUDED

What Our Children’s Book Publishing Packages Include

Children's books are built differently from text-only titles. Artwork and words have to hold their position on every screen, colour has to survive the move from monitor to print, and page count follows the illustrations rather than the word count. Every package covers that production work at a flat fee confirmed before anyone starts.

Your Amazon KDP and other publishing accounts stay in your name, and you approve the files, cover and listing details.

  • Fixed-layout formatting, so art and text stay put
  • Full-colour interiors with bleed and trim set
  • Trim size chosen around your artwork
  • Original illustration, priced by the page
  • ISBN, age range and grade level metadata
WHAT WE PUBLISH

Board Books, Picture Books and Everything After

Each format has its own production requirements, page conventions and print specification. Choose the one your story is written for, or call and we will tell you which it fits.

Board Books

Under 300 words across 8 to 12 spreads, printed on thick stock with rounded corners. Built for readers who will chew the corners and drop it in the bath.

Picture Books

The standard 24, 32 or 40-page format, 500 to 1,000 words, with a full-colour illustration on nearly every spread. Text and art are paced together so each page turn earns itself.

Early Readers

Simple vocabulary, controlled sentence length, and art on most pages. Reading level and grade band are checked and entered into your listing metadata.

Chapter Books and Middle Grade

5,000 to 50,000 words with spot illustration rather than full-page art. Reflowable EPUB works here, so these start at our $399 package.

Additional illustrations from $149 each, and a 32-page picture book usually needs 16. Illustrations can also be bought on their own, without a publishing package. Artwork you supply yourself needs to be 300 DPI, CMYK, and sized to trim plus bleed.

TRANSPARENT PRICING

You wrote it. We'll draw it.

Every rate sits in plain figures, priced by the page rather than the project. You know what your book costs before you send the manuscript.

Not every children's book needs the same kind of art. A picture book carries a full illustration on nearly every spread. A chapter book needs a small drawing at the head of each chapter and little else. Board books sit in between, with fewer pages but larger, simpler shapes built for very young eyes.

Tell us which of the four your story is, and the page count follows from there. Every illustration is hand-drawn by a children's book artist, never AI-generated, and the same artist works your whole book so your characters look like themselves on the last page as much as the first.

The artwork is licensed to you outright.

Author-Owned Accounts

Your Amazon KDP and other publishing accounts are opened in your name, with login access and account settings under your control.

Royalties Paid Directly to You

Your payment and tax information is connected directly to your publishing accounts so eligible retailer royalties are paid to you.

Approval Before Publication

You review the final files, metadata, categories, pricing, and listing details before your approved editions are submitted for publication.

Publishing and Distribution

Where Your Children's Book Will Be Available.

Reach depends on your package. Entry-level packages focus on Amazon. Higher packages add Apple, Kobo, Google and Barnes & Noble, then print distribution so bookstores can stock it, and finally school and library ordering channels most authors never set up.

  • Barnes & Noble
  • Google Play Books
  • IngramSpark
  • Amazon Kindle
YOUR BOOK STAYS YOURS

Not a Traditional Children’s Publisher. Here Is the Difference.

Houses like Scholastic and Candlewick pay an advance, keep most of your royalties for the life of the book, and pair you with an illustrator you do not choose. Norvex charges one flat fee, takes nothing from your royalties, and you approve every sketch before it becomes final art. No agent, no submission pile, no waiting.

Our Publishing Process

How We Publish Your Children's Book

Your book moves through four clearly defined stages, from manuscript review and production preparation to your final approval and publishing setup.

01

Share Your Manuscript

Call us with your manuscript, the age group you are writing for, and whether you have artwork. We confirm which format fits and quote the flat fee before anything begins.

02

Sketches and Layout

If we are illustrating, your artist builds character sketches for approval before any final art starts. Your text is paced across spreads so each page turn lands where it should.

03

You Review and Approve

Review the artwork, interior layout, cover, categories and listing details. Nothing is submitted until you approve it.

04

Print and Publish

A proof copy is reviewed before print approval, then your approved editions go live on the platforms your package covers. Accounts, rights, royalties and files stay yours.

Good to know

Common Questions About Children’s Book Publishing

Compare pricing, formats, included services, distribution, editing, account ownership, and royalties before choosing the book publishing package for your manuscript.

How much does it cost to publish a children's book?

Packages run from $399 to $5,149 as a flat fee. Chapter books and middle grade start at $399 for Kindle, or $899 with a paperback and chapter head illustrations. Picture books need fixed-layout formatting and full-colour print preparation, which starts at $1,749. If your story still needs artwork drawn, the Illustrated Edition at $5,149 covers the full publishing package plus 12 original illustrations.

Which package fits a chapter book or middle grade novel?

Story Start at $399 for a Kindle edition, or Chapter Book Print at $899 to add a paperback. Those two use reflowable formatting, which suits text-led books. Everything above them is built for picture books, with fixed-layout formatting and full-colour interiors you would be paying for and not using. Most middle grade authors are better served by Chapter Book Print plus an edit than by climbing the ladder.

How many illustrations does a picture book need?

A 24-page book usually needs 12, a 32-page book 16, and a 40-page book 24. Board books run shorter, at 8 to 12. Chapter books and middle grade need far less: 8 to 15 spot illustrations at chapter heads, which are priced separately at $89 each alongside any publishing package.

Can schools and libraries order my book?

Yes, from School & Library Ready at $2,895. That package sets the wholesale discount high enough that institutions will actually order, enables returns, and files your Library of Congress Control Number. It also adds age range, grade level and subject heading metadata, which is what librarians search on.

Do I keep the rights to my book and the artwork?

Yes to both. You keep your manuscript, your publishing rights and your approved files. Artwork we create is licensed to you outright, and you receive the character sheets to keep. Your retailer accounts are opened in your name with your own payment details attached, so royalties are paid directly to you. Norvex takes no percentage of your sales, ever. From Hardcover Edition at $2,249, your ISBN is registered to you at Bowker and your imprint is listed as publisher of record.

What should authors watch out for when choosing a children's publisher?

Four things worth checking before you sign anything. Does the company take a percentage of your royalties for the life of the book? Is the ISBN registered to them rather than to you? Who owns the illustrations once they are finished? And can you leave without buying your own files back? At Norvex the answers are no percentage, your ISBN at Bowker from Hardcover Edition upward, artwork licensed to you outright, and non-exclusive terms.

Do your packages include editing?

Editing is a separate service, priced by the word. Proofreading is $0.019, copy editing $0.035, line editing $0.045, and a full developmental edit $0.089, each with a minimum charge because short manuscripts still take real editorial hours. A middle grade novel of 40,000 words comes to $1,400 for a copy edit or $1,800 for a line edit. Picture books and early readers fall under the minimum, so they are $350 for a copy edit and $450 for a line edit whatever the exact word count.

Which edit does a children's book need?

It depends on length more than genre. Picture book text is short enough that a line edit is usually right, since the work is rhythm, page-turn pacing, and cutting anything the illustrations will already show. Chapter books and middle grade behave like adult fiction, so a copy edit handles most finished manuscripts and a developmental edit is worth it if the structure still needs work. If you are not sure, a Manuscript Review at $299 gives you a written report and a clear recommendation, and the fee credits against whatever edit you book afterwards.
